Let's make a 'loud silence'. We will walk in large numbers, calling for peace for all people and for our planet, showing solidarity and care for everyone impacted by violence, conflict and war.

The silent walking vigil is a positive, public witness for peace by Quakers, with an invitation to all who are supportive to join us.  We want to show our solidarity and care for those impacted by violence, conflict and war.  The date has been chosen for its proximity to the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Walk with us. Witness for peace.

19 Saturday 12.00– 4.00pm, Central London

Register

We are aiming for an event at scale – a “loud silence” prominently visible in central London.  Also we are encouraging Quaker communities UK-wide to arrange local peace activities around the same date so those unable to be present in London can feel involved.

The vision originated in a “Rallying Call” article by Steve Day, published in The Friend on 9 January 2026.  A further article was featured in May 2026.

In our planning, we have used Quaker discernment, seeking to be guided by the Spirit.  We see the vigil as a manifestation of Quaker light and love in action, rooted in our long-standing commitment to peace.

An invitation to Servas members

Servas members are invited to join the Quaker Walking Vigil for Peace. Please bring water and a snack, and try to wear something white. No placards or banners, please.

The vigil starts at 12.00 at the Westminster end of Victoria Embankment Gardens, so aim to arrive by 11.45. The walk is due to reach St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, at 14.15, and will gather in the square behind the church.

Servas members will meet at 15.00 at the top of the glass globe entrance to the Crypt Café. From there we can share a drink in the café, take a walk in nearby St James's Park, or do something else, and reflect on the experience together. To help you find us, I will carry a small Servas flag (a red and green symbol on white). We have been asked not to display flags or banners during the vigil itself, so it will only come out at 15.00.
