At 16, I spent two weeks traveling solo across Germany with Servas, staying with welcoming host families in Munich and Frankfurt. Through hiking, shared meals, and daily conversations, I formed lifelong connections and had an unforgettable experience that I recommend to all young people
My family and I have been Servas members for almost 4 years, and every experience, every encounter has brought something very special to my life. So for my first solo travelling experience as a 16 year old girl I knew that Servas would be the best way to do it.
I travelled through Germany for 2 weeks, visiting Munich, Frankfurt and the little villages around them. The first 4 days I stayed with Asa and Matthias, a lovely couple on the outskirts of Munich. It was my first time solo travelling with Servas, but their welcoming was overwhelming and I loved sharing time and conversation with them. It was very fun to cook them Spanish food and for me to try their food, i was able to visit the city and one day i even took a train to Salzburg.
My next family was in a little village near Frankfurt, Marlen and her family welcomed me to their life from the first moment. I had the best time visiting Frankfurt with them and even going to a family’s birthday party, which was great to get to know the culture better. We connected fastly and our conversations about music and travels would never end!
